About Marina McLain

Marina McLain As an artist, I like to create pieces that are inspired by my travels abroad and other things I enjoy in life, such as old movies. With my paintings, I like to recreate the beauty I see in the world, whether it be a natural landscape or man-made scenery. With my digital art, I like to make the real places I've been to look dark and dystopian, as if it's the end of the world. With my photography, I like to preserve the memories of the scenes I don't want to forget.

My love for art started at a young age. I grew up watching Disney movies, which is probably what sparked my interest in artwork. I was always coloring in coloring books or drawing my own pictures in spiral notebooks. I still steal the kids menu from my little brothers whenever we go to restaurants so that I can color in the pictures. It wasn't until early high school that I realized I wanted to paint. I always only had crayons or colored pencils or those cheap kids' watercolor paints to work with. I wanted to be able to paint with thick professional paint that you could layer.

My dream came true on Christmas my freshman year of high school when I opened my first set of real paints and canvases. Of course I was terrible at first. I can barely look at my first several paintings without shuddering, but I got better by practicing and learning different techniques from my art teachers over the years.

When I first started painting I only did it for myself. It wasn't until my freshman year of college that I realized I could make a living by sharing my art with the world. I decided to change my major to Studio Art in order to nurture my talent and better my artwork. In 2017, I graduated from Liberty University with a bachelors degree in Studio Art. I have learned a lot in the last few years and am still learning every day.

As I have said before, I do like to travel and most of my artwork is inspired by my travels. When I was a kid, I would go on road trips across the country a lot with my family. Having to move around a lot as an army brat, traveling was always in my blood, but it wasn't until my family moved to Norway that my love for traveling around the world began. So far, I have been to England, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and of course Norway.

My hope for this website is to share my love of art and the beauty of the world with you. As for the future of my artwork, I hope to see more of the world so I can capture more memories with my camera and canvas.
